DEDICATED WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

PROPOSED DEDICATED WATER SUPPLY SCHEME FOR SALEM CORPORATION.

It is proposed to take up a Dedicated Water Supply Scheme to Salem Corporation and also to transfer the existing way side villages being supplied through the Nangavalli Scheme to the TWAD Board Salem – Attur Combined Water Supply Scheme.

Both the Schemes will be maintained by the Salem Corporation. It is proposed to supply 80 MLD for the current requirements and 110 MLD for future needs.

The TWAD Board has prepared a DPR for the dedicated scheme at an estimated cost of Rs. 178 crores.

The Salem Corporation has approached the TNUIFSL for financial assistance to execute the dedicated scheme. The TNUIFSL has analysed the DPR prepared by the TWAD in detail and reported that the scheme as such is not viable. They have informed the Corporation to revise the project suitably.

The Commissioner of Municipal Administration has invited tenders from competent technical consultants to prepare a revised DPR for the project on 29.1.2007.

The scheme is being executed by the TWAD Board. Under this scheme 2 OHT were completed earlier and another 4 OHT were completed in this year and will be put into use shortly . Construction of 12 OHTS are under progress.
